It has to be very functional the same way we have to design it practically, also we have to consider in design about natural lighting and cross ventilation. Safety Tips
1. Use anti slip flooring. Falling with a hot pan or a sharp knife in your hand can have serious injuries. You can use flooring material as, textured vinyl or soft-glazed ceramic tile for added precautions.
2. Keep electrical switches, plugs & lightings fixtures away from water sources. Good general lighting supplemented with proper task lighting that is clearly focused on work top surface & should not produced any shadow.
3. Keep a fire extinguisher handy. As per NKBA recommendation, a fire extinguisher is visibly located near a room exit, away from cooking equipment & 15”- 48” above floor.
5. Use the space safety, think about how traffic will flow throw the Kitchen & make sure no one will interfere with your space while cooking, ask about work triangle to our design expert.
6. Locate microwaves 24”- 28” above floor to avoid reaching to retrieve food.
7. Design ergonomically by slide-out trays and binds in base cabinets make storage items more accessible so you don’t have to bend.
8. Avoid sharp corners on the ends of counter top, especially islands, & peninsulas, by having them radius.
Kitchen Design Tips
Here are a few tips for designing a kitchen layout keeping in mind minimum movement, and easy retrievals.
- Vegetable and market items should be close to the entrance. This facilities the placing of items brought from outside, without disturbing the person cooking.
- Store most frequently used items in the middle of zone between shoulder & hips, store less frequently used items higher up or lower down.
- An efficient damping system to close doors & drawers saliently helps to keep stress levels low.
- Big utensils should keep next to the sink to facilitate minimum movement for washing.
- Storage of grams spices, rice, oil, should be on one side of the cooking. Storage of regularly used utensils (pressure cookers, daily Crocker & Cutlery) should be on the other side of the cooking.
- Place glass and small plates above the sink. These utensils can be placed on the tray without wiping them; the excess water will drip automatically.
- Fix the dustbin or the bin holder on the shutter, which is mounted below the sink. The detergent pullout should ideally be on the second shutter for keeping detergents and cleaning agents.
- The use of a tall unit increases the storage capacity largely. For the same floor space, the storage area is almost double as compared to the storage area of the base and the wall unit combined.
- The concept of a work triangle while designing the kitchen layout will make cooking a pleasure.

Maintenance tips for modular kitchen
Maintaining modular kitchens involves maintaining four main parts :
Counterops :
Especially if you are going kitchen counter top as Korian top, Technistone or wood don’t forget these points
- Do not chop your vegetables on the counter without proper veg cutting boards
- If your counter tops stained wipe out with damp cloth and clean it immediately.
- Use hot pot stand to keep hot vessels on the countertop instead of directly keeping on it.
For dado tile & floor :
- Use mild detergent for cleaning. Avoid bleach and acid based products.
- Clean at least every week to avoid permanent staining of tile.
- Have a throw rug on the floor or if you have ceramic tiles installed, use a soft broom or brush to remove the dust from the floor.
Kitchen cabinet shutters :
- Have the kitchen cabinets/shutters surfaces clean and tidy.
- Do not allow water or stain to stay on cabinets/shutters surfaces.
- Use a dry cloth for cleaning wooden cabinet shutters and mild soap for laminate and glass ones.
- Place all the appliances away from the cabinet doors to prevent their swelling.
- Don’t use sharp items or knife to remove the stain from shutter or cabinet.
- Don’t use acid based products for stain removing, spray Colin slightly and wipe out with clean damp cloth.
Electrical appliances :
- Do not use the appliances near to the water area.
- Defrost and clean microwave and Ovens regularly.
- Use gas leak detector for safety.
